Military Days at Local Park

Posted: Updated:

Locals young and old gathered at Fort Stevenson Park today to celebrate and learn about what being in the military was like in North Dakota over a century ago.

The event was held along the lake at the park this afternoon, complete with activities right from the 1870's.

From candle making, to shooting black powder guns, people of all ages got a taste of military life of yesteryear.

One member of the Fort Stevenson Foundation says that keeping awareness of our state's history is fun and important for everyone.

(Dick Messerly, Member of Fort Stevenson Foundation) "It's fun to see the kids get involved in this, and it's obviously way before the computer and digital age so, also, it's important to preserve that history because it's such an important part of North Dakota's early settlement period, and the whole military period there."
