Former Sports Editor Arrested for Violating Conditions of His Release

A former sports editor at the Dickinson Press is back behind bars for violating terms of his supervised release.

Bobby Abplanalp was arrested and charged last June with attempted human trafficking after trying to arrange to meet a minor and pay for sex.

The case moved to federal court last September where he was charged with attempted coercion and enticement of a minor.

Abplanalp was released to the Bismarck Transition Center last that month..

Tuesday staff at the Transition Center confiscated his cell phone.

A federal court document shows the phone contained photos of nude females and messages pertaining to prostitution.

The document states further evidence was gathered that show he violated terms of his release.

The 30-year-old Abplanalp was taken into custody this afternoon.

He is held on no bond.

The federal coercion charged carries a maximum penalty of twenty years in jail and a $250,000 fine.
