Businesses Prepare for the Mandan Fourth of July Parade

Butcher Block Meats is a small, locally-owned shop with one very big reputation.

"A lot of people before we knew we won last year would call up and say how much they enjoyed our float. They'd come into the store and say how much they enjoyed that." said Dan Kraft, the owner of Butcher Block Meats.

For the past five years, their famous floats have won top honors in Mandan's Fourth of July Parade.

Some of their most famous works include the Mickey Mouse Rocket and Pilot Snoopy, both of which could fly.

And this year they hope to top it all with another show-stopper.

Complete with flashing lights, moving eyes, and rolling wheels, this family hopes that Mator from the famous Disney movie "Cars" will steal the show once again.

"Tim and his boys they planned it out and decided what to do and if you heard the theme it was show your colors red white and blue and in the back Mator is pulling an American flag" said Dan.

But that's taken a lot of work to say the least.

So far, this team of handymen have put over 500 man hours into perfecting their patriotic Mator look-a-like.

"Getting everything good and just right it takes a long time to get it just perfect." said Breaden Kraft, Dan's son.

The idea to join the parade years ago, was brought up by Kevin Kubisiak, a long-time friend. Kubisiak, his twin boys, and Kraft's son all take part in building their floats, while Kraft pays for the supplies.

"Watching all the kids around there and they, you know they're going for the candy but their bored and you can just see it. So I asked, mind if we make it a character every year? He said fine. We can still put his name on it but everything we made if for the kids." said Kevin Kubisiak one of the masterminds of the float.

And since it's a family effort, there's little chance they'll be stopping any time soon.

"It just depends. How busy they are and how busy I am."  Said Kevin
