Storms Ravage Farm North of New Salem

Posted: Updated:

Storms caused heavy damage across the viewing area...from Mercer to Morton County.

There's a mess of storm damage scattered across the area.

The Roger and Eunice Bueligen farm took a major hit about 10 miles north of New Salem.

A wind tower is going up about a mile away from the Bueligen
farm.

A spokesman for Allete Renewable Resources says a wind measurement from a crane around 300 feet in the air-- read 130 miles-an-hour at one point last night.

The storm destroyed a number of buildings on the property.

Neighbors, family and a contractor working on their home nearby joined in some of the clean-up efforts.

David Bueligen is building a house at the farm.

He says the damaging winds and rain only lasted about five minutes.

But it did plenty of damage in that short time...

"These panels and stuff were all standing up. It must have landed on top of that bail feeder there. Wind breaks are all busted. That calving barn over there, that east wall, the posts are sheered off at the bottom. There are feeder wagons in there. If they weren't there it would be flattened out, that's what's holding it up so...yeah, it's a mess," says David Bueligen/ north of New Salem.

The horse trailer you saw in that video was moved about 30 yards.

Bueligen says he has 12 windows on his new home.

He says the wind and rain were so strong every one of them leaked during the storm.
