Mosquito Pool in Grand Forks Tests Positive for West Nile Virus

Grand Forks mosquito control crews report the first positive test for West Nile virus found in the state for the 2014 season.

A crew reports that a mosquito pool tested positive for West Nile virus in Grand Forks County.

A statement from the North Dakota Department of Health says this is the first indication that West Nile Virus has been transmitted to mosquitos in the state this year.

According to the state health department, no people in North Dakota have tested positive with the virus.

Alicia Lepp, Surveillance Epidemiologist with the North Dakota Health Department says they typically don't see positive cases of West Nile until the end of July and August.

Last year, the first positive human case of West Nile virus was reported July 24th.
