Breakfast at the Dakota Zoo

Posted: Updated:

Kids and animal lovers had a fun and unique start to their day this morning..

Kids from all over Bismarck got to enjoy their morning meal with farm animals.

It's all part of the Dakota Zoo's "Breakfast at the Zoo" event.

About 30 volunteers serve a hearty breakfast to families from all over Bismarck and Mandan before they go visit the animals.

This event happens throughout the year and even during the winter months.

A spokesperson from the event sponsor Knife River said this breakfast is a great way to start any day.

"The Zoo might be an atypical place to have breakfast, you don't think about the zoo and breakfast but they really combine the two things very well here they have got a great set up first of all, and the kids are just having a blast, they come down here they get to have bacon and eggs, have some pancakes, and then go and see the animals, it's a really good opportunity," Tony Spilde said.

Organizers say today's breakfast saw one of its biggest days with well over 500 people.
