Turtle Days

Posted: Updated:

More than 2,000 people are spending their weekend in the small town of Turtle Lake, to celebrate one of the largest street fairs in North Dakota - the 33rd annual Turtle Days.

The event is taking place all weekend including world champion turtle races, with participants getting assigned a turtle claim as they raced across the finish line.

There is also an all school reunion - along with horse shoes, derby races and a parade.

One volunteer encourages people of all interests to come out and experience it.

(Shawn Schafer, Volunteer at "Turtle Days") "You know, it's just a fun crowd. I'll tell you, every street dance is always a blast, everybody's behaved, always a good time. Great dances. I mean there's something for everybody here. You go up and down main street there are a lot of booths and different venders, it's just a good time, good atmosphere."

Turtle Days will continue tonight with a street dance and a live band.
