WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - A Democratic candidate for state Senate is asking city and state officials to meet in Williston to discuss high rent increases in the city.
The Williston Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1mxJ3JQ ) Barb Vondell plans to host the meeting Wednesday at the Williston Community Library. Vondell has been fighting against high rent increases at two Williston mobile home courts.
The new owners of FM Trailer Court increased rent from $300 to $850 on June 1. At Elm Estates, new owners last year raised rent from $350 to $750.
Williston is the hub of the booming western North Dakota oil patch. A national study from an apartment renting guide recently found that Williston had the highest average rent in the U.S.
Several state officials have committed to attending the meeting so far.
