Woman Drowns in Powers Lake

Posted: Updated:
A Powers Lake woman drowned in a boating accident on Powers Lake Saturday afternoon.

Burke County Sheriff Michael Cude says 41-year-old Carmen Skalicky died in the incident when the boat she was in capsized in high winds on the lake.

A witness says Skalicky was one of four people in the boat - all wearing life jackets - when the boat overturned and Skalicky was trapped under the boat.

Cude estimates Skalicky was underwater for more than 40 minutes before being pulled out, and she could not be revived.

Cude says deputies from Mountrail County arrived at the Burke County lake to help in the recovery effort.
