Man Who Crashed Into Midway Liquors was Under the Influence

Posted: Updated:

New developments in the Midway Liquors crash in Mandan.

Police say the 47-year-old man who lost control of his truck and ran into the building was under the influence of alcohol.

On Saturday, the man hit another vehicle on Memorial Highway, lost control of his truck and ran right through the doors of the liquor store.

He was taken to the hospital for minor injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence.

No was else was injured in the crash.

The man's charges are pending.

We talked to the owners of the building and got a look inside at all of the damage.

The floor is littered with hundreds of broken bottles and the carpet is soaked with alcohol.

Owner of Midway Lanes and the liquor store, Jim Mellon, says they've lost at least $60,000 worth of inventory.

He says the walls, carpet and even the ceiling need to be replaced.

Mellon was out of town when the crash happened, and says he was shocked when he got the call.

"How he missed a lot of things could have stopped him, I will never know and if you look at the building as it sits there now you say well that's no big deal. Until you see the inside then you'll say, 'oh my'...For him to be able to travel that far and not hit anything and then make a perfect shot through that door is unbelievable.. unbelievable," Owner Jim Mellon said.

Mellon thinks the total cost of all the damage will probably be around $250,000.
