New Bomb Wing Commander

Posted: Updated:

The 5th Bomb Wing at the Minot Air Force Base is under new leadership as of this morning.

Col. Jason Armagost took over command from Col. Alexis Mezynski -- marking the first time he has commanded a wing.

Major General Scott Vander Hamm presided over the ceremony...laying out what he expects from the new commander.

(Maj. Gen. Scott Vander Hamm) "My vision Jason, and now your vision, is one integrated team, highly focused and effective, continuously improving our people and forces while strengthening our nuclear culture and global strike capabilities." (Col. Jason Armagost - 5th Bomb Wing Commander) "Two years after the B52 came to Minot and 20 years before he would become president, Ronald Reagan said this, "Freedom is never more than one generation from extinction. We must fight for it, protect it, defend it, and hand it to our children with the well taught lesson that they must do the same."

Armagost comes to Minot after a year long stay in Guam as Vice Commander of the 36th Wing there.

His predecessor, outgoing Commander Mezynski will now move on to Qatar.
