Bismarck-Mandan MPO Asks Locals for Transportation Suggestions

Posted: Updated:

The Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization develops a Long Range Transportation Plan.

The project is a 25 year plan that will look at changes to the current transportation system as the area grows.

The cities are asking locals for input on roadways, sidewalks, bike paths and more.

"Some are talking about the trails system. Some are talking about the bike system-- a lot of roadway comments of course, but this includes transit too, so there's a wide array of things," says Bismarck-Mandan MPO Transportation Manager Steve Saunders.

Some residents shared the improvements they would like to see.

"I think maybe more biking trails around town. There's a lot of sidewalks around town for pedestrians, but not so much as biking trails or maybe mountain biking," says Daniel Wassim.

"It's definitely an opportunity to make more room for the bicyclists. There's not really a lot of opportunity or safe places for them to ride, so I don't see a lot of cyclists," says Kim Mulka.

"The roads and transportation in Bismarck, I think it's good and it's getting better," says Marianette Valmocena.

Comments can be submitted to the MPO on until August 15th.
