Bismarck's First Ever Upcycling Event

Posted: Updated:
Today Bismarck held it's first ever upcycling/repurposing event..

The Savoir Faire, held at the Buckstop Junction gives vendors a chance to sell reinvented items that would otherwise end up in the trash.

Most upcyclers find their materials at auctions, estate sales, and even in dumpsters.

They find creative ways to take old items and reinvent them, finding a new use other than their original purpose.

There were 20 vendors at the event and many of them say up-cycling is important for the community and the environment.

"I think there is a need for it because it gives people the opportunity to find unique pieces for your home and also to keep furniture out of the landfill, that one thing that is important to us to not see this really well built nice furniture end up in the landfill.  We would rather see it get a little love and go back into someone's house.  You know you never know what you are going to find and there is so many one-of-a-kind items so it's not like you can go to the store and there is six of them sitting there, whatever you find it's an adventure each time and it's always something new." says Carrie Brusvena and Maria Bosak

Organizers are planning on making this an annual event.
