Volleyball Players Spike Out Violence

Posted: Updated:
One Bismarck park was packed with volleyball players today who are competing for a good cause..

This is the 10th annual 'Spike out Violence' volleyball tournament at Pioneer park.

The two day event is being put on by the Abused Adult Resource Center to raise money for victims and families of sexual and physical assault.

20 women's, men's, and co-ed teams are competing through Sunday and each team paid almost 100 dollars to enter the tournament.

Organizers estimate this event will raise over 3,000 dollars for the center this year.

Stephanie Rausch says its events like these that help the AARC serve victims of violence.

"That's really important to emphasize that we need to be more of a community rather than just leaving them to themselves.  The whole state keeps developing you know we're starting to witness it a lot more in our news as well and think that's also bringing awareness.  That's why we are here to show them as a community we are here for them as well." says Stephanie Rausch

The AARC is sticking with the "strike" theme and having a bowling tournament next month.

The Strike out Violence bowling tournament will take place at Midway Bowling and will cost 150 dollars per team.
