Spike Ball Comes to Bismarck

Posted: Updated:
A big group of people packed the park this weekend to compete in a sport that's new to Bismarck..

It's called Spike Ball and the whole tournament was started by a man named Luke Schafer.

He says he played in a tournament about a month ago in California and wanted to bring the sport to Bismarck.

It's basically like volleyball, but instead of the ball going over the net, it has to bounce off of one on the ground.

It's played 2 on 2 and you can only use one hand to hit the ball.

And it's already gained quite a bit of popularity..

There were 26 teams in just one of the divisions in this tournament.

"It's different, it's something that a lot of people haven't seen yet. It's a very new game and we're trying to bring it to the midwest a lot. It's played in other areas of the country and then it's a very good workout," Luke Schafer said.

Each team had to pay $25 to play in the tournament.

Winners get a cash prize.
