t Cancer

Posted: Updated:

Many more people are beating Cancer now than ever, a local woman obtaining her doctorate is trying to develop what sort of treatment patients should receive once they're in remission.

I spoke with Sana Keller recently regarding her work....

(Melinda Bolton, Reporter) "After working for years as a nurse, Sana Keller is hoping to finish off her doctorate by giving some cancer survivors lifestyle coaching."

(Sana Keller, Owner of Health Unlimited) "There's so much that can be done and most of it is very inexpensive, very safe, not hard to do..."

(Melinda Bolton) "She also hopes to pinpoint unhealthy habits in her clients and help them to remove those habits for the long term. Particularly, habitual fear of a cancer return."

(Sana Keller, Owner of Health Unlimited) "We're also looking at the aspect of fear of taking just this step for looking into, 'Is there a way for me to better handle my fears that I have?' Because just admitting that we have fears like that just can bring up a whole wealth of feelings that we may not want to deal with."

(Melinda Bolton) "Tammi Benno will be participating in Kellers study. A registered nurse who works with dialysis patients, she learned she had breast cancer by chance."

(Tammi Benno, Breast Cancer Survivor) "This was a total fluke... um nobody in my family has cancer, which all the doctors can't believe. What had happened was the year before, one of my good friends had been diagnosed with breast cancer."

(Melinda Bolton) "So in support of her friend, the entire circle of women went to get mammograms. After some further investigation, Benno too was diagnosed with breast cancer. She says it's not over when it's over."

(Tammi Benno, Breast Cancer Survivor) "All of a sudden the weight gain comes and - you know- you've had your lymph nodes taken out and your thyroid and now you're trying to deal with getting healthy again. But there's no where, -you know- there's not really anywhere to go where any body understands that"

(Melinda Bolton) "Sana wants to change all that; she's hoping that about 20 cancer survivors will come forward and participate in her study and survey, to see if her methods can help survivors continue to live happy, healthy lives.
