A motorcyclist crashed when he was hit by a piece of blown out tire this morning on Highway 83.

The motorcyclist has been identified by the North Dakota Highway Patrol as 53-year-old Edward Gregoire.

The track of the tire was covering the entire right lane when it was hit by a truck.

The tire was then kicked up, hitting the motorcyclist in the chest and knocking him from his bike.

He then rolled into the ditch until both him and the bike came to a stop.

Surprisingly the man only suffered minor injuries.

"The witnesses that saw it said yeah he's lucky that he was wearing a helmet he did quite a bit of tumbling and rolled quite a distance. The ambulance took his helmet but it was pretty scratched up and bent up and dented. It looked like it prevented a lot of head trauma." said State Trooper Jeremy Rost.

According to Rost, hitting the tire was unavoidable since the truck and the motorcycle were traveling right alongside one another.

Other than that he is expected to make a full recovery.
