The state "A" legion baseball tournament kicks off tomorrow in Wahpeton with first round play. Velva Post #39 comes in as the 4th seed out of the west and will meet up with the host team Wahpeton in the final game of the opening round. The Aggies didn't see Wahpeton during the regular season but know that they bring with them plenty of experience from the high school season combined with some college players.
(Brent Engebretson, Aggies Baseball Coach)"Haven't seen anything on them other than that they're real good. They had a great high school season and then they've added some kids that played college baseball so they're the real deal and we got our work cut out for us tomorrow night. We have to pitch well, we have to play defense, that's been our standard but our key is going to be scoring runs. We gotta be able to put up more than 5 runs to have a chance to win, teams are just so good out there. The east is really good. Wahpeton, Grafton are both really good, you saw Beulah last week and they're so deep you gotta be prepared every day of the week and if Makoti stays hot look out for them and you know Watford's good you know there's nobody that's bad at the state tournament so we gotta be able to play well every pitch."
(Adam Dean, Pitcher/Outfielder)"I have no doubt that we can make it to the end if we just keep hitting the ball and putting the ball in play and making plays, if our defense plays like it can I have no doubt that we can make it that far."
(Eli Luna, Shortstop/2nd Base)"We've been having troubles with walks lately but other than that we've been pretty solid, we've been hitting the ball making plays, there's no doubt that we can be one of the top teams there."
