Basin Electric Employees Create Garden

Posted: Updated:

Basin Electric employees are going green...

It all started with a little brainstorming on how the business could give back.

They decided to do some gardening while on the job.

Basin's Backyard Garden gives employees the opportunity to grow all kinds of vegetables - corn, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, and lettuce - just to name a few.

Garden Coordinator Tracie Bettenhausen says they plan to donate the produce to local food banks.

She also says her favorite part is being able to get to know more of the employees that work at Basin while they harvest the garden in their spare time.

"This has kind of given everybody a chance to get to know each other who wouldn't get to know each other otherwise and then, you know, it's a chance to work on something and community building and teamwork and all that," says Tracie Bettenhausen, Garden Coordinator.

Since the garden first sprouted in June, they already have more than 30 volunteers.

So far they've made two donations to both Heaven Helpers Soup Cafe and Ruth Meiers Hospitality House.
