Oil Jobs Aplenty in North Dakota

Posted: Updated:
Almost 1 in 7 private sector jobs in North Dakota are related to oil and gas production.

The Oil and Gas Employment Report by Job Service North Dakota, also says 28.5% of North Dakota wages come from the oil industry

Some of the Counties with the largest share were McKenzie and Dunn county.

The report showed Dunn having over 85% of all wages earned last year coming from oil and gas.

Tessa Sandstrom with the Petroleum Council says the report is testament to how much production in western North Dakota has affected the rest of the state.

"It just shows the impact that, the ripple effects that the industry has all across the state and even out side of the state.  With the level of production that we have we are certainly a leader in energy production, not just for the state but for our nation and the world." says Tessa Sandstrom

State lawmakers appropriated 120,000 to Job Service North Dakota to do this report.

Michael Ziesch who Managed the project said they wanted the report to show only industries that were related to oil and gas production--bringing it to a more community level.

"We were able to show the employment and wage relationship of the communities to oil activities, oil and gas activities so they can get a pretty good gage on how the relationship is." says Michael Ziesch with Job Service North Dakota

All 53 counties in the state have some kind of oil or gas related jobs.
