Morton County Fair Showmen Getting Ready for the Ring

Posted: Updated:
 Pigs, Sheep and Cows...
It's a big day for livestock showman.
Reporter Sarah Heinrich takes you to New Salem where the 54th annual county fair is underway.

Weeks of hard work and effort all boil down to this...
Just a few minutes in the ring.
(Mara Bornemann / Pig Showman) "It's really fun I love it. My dad raised pigs when he was younger and always wanted us to do that, and finally I came through."
The washing ... the combing is all for the love of Linda.
(Mara Bornemann / Pig Showman) "She's excited to see me and run around and wag her tail at me."
While the pigs are in the ring--busy looking their best, the sheep are on standby waiting for their chance in the spotlight.
(Clayton Fried / Sheep Showman) "I'm showing two rambioulet yearling ewe lambs. My favorite part of showing sheep is just the all around experience that you get from showing and getting to meet everybody here. "
On the other side of the fair grounds McKenzie is busy getting Annabelle ready for her time to shine.
(McKenzie Kuhn / Beef Showman) "It takes months to get them to where you want them to be."
There's been plenty of combing, walking and preparation for these showmen in the past 6 months.
(McKenzie Kuhn / Beef Showman) "I really being around animals and  working with animals."
And it just goes to show that hard work really does pay off.

The fair runs through Sunday at the fair grounds in New Salem
