Capitol A'Fair Brings a Creative Flair to Bismarck

Posted: Updated:

It's an event many people in Bismarck look forward to every summer..
Hundreds of people fill the capital grounds this afternoon for the 40th annual Capitol A'Fair.

The event continues through tomorrow and features food, local vendors, and live music.

The Sleepy Hollow singers are performing numbers from the musical Chicago and sidewalk artists are creating chalk-masterpieces at the steps of the Capitol building.

130 booths are set up where vendors have something for everyone-- from food to arts and crafts, and even hand-made clothing.

One of these vendors is Jerry Freier who makes bird houses out of old materials that most might consider junk.

He has been selling his art at the Capitol A'Fair for the last 5 years.

He says he likes using re-purposed objects because of the character it brings to his craft.

"This is a 5 gallon oil can right here, these are from Oklahoma.  Real horseshoes that must be for snow or something, they got cleats in there.  And this is a 5 gallon or 5 pound Prince Albert can.  I use anything old I can find," Jerry Freier said.

Tomorrow the festivities at the Capitol A'Fair continue with the Dakota Ford Mustang Show.
