MINNEAPOLIS, MN, August 05, 2014 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On August 4, 2014, a former driver for Skyhop Global, LLC ("Skyhop") filed a proposed collective action lawsuit in Minnesota federal court, alleging that the company unlawfully failed to pay them proper overtime wages. The lawsuit alleges that Skyhop violated federal and state overtime laws by failing to pay time-and-a-half overtime to its drivers. Plaintiff provided airport shuttle services through contracts with airlines throughout the United States to transport airline employees, primarily pilots and flight attendants, to and from airports and hotels.

According to the Complaint, Plaintiff and the other similarly situated employees were hourly-paid employees, eligible to receive overtime pay. However, Plaintiff and those similarly situated were paid their regular hourly rate for all of their work hours, including overtime. Plaintiff alleges that Defendants paid Plaintiff and the similarly situated employees "straight time" for their overtime hours, rather than the legally-required one and one-half times their hourly rate, attempting to evade the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), resulting in failure to compensate Plaintiff and those similarly situated at the required overtime rate for all overtime hours worked.

Skyhop Global, LLC is a domestic corporation with its principal place of business in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Skyhop has done business as the two additional Defendants named in this action, Allied Skyhop, Inc. and Allied Airbus, Inc.

Paul Lukas, who represents the plaintiff, stated, "The law is straightforward: employers must pay overtime hours at one and a half times the employees' regular hourly rate. Skyhop failed to follow this well-known law, instead paying its drivers "straight-time" for their overtime hours. These drivers worked long hours, and we intend to recover all the unpaid overtime wages they are obviously due."

The plaintiff is represented by Paul J. Lukas from Nichols Kaster, PLLP in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The case was filed in federal court in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, and is titled Stembridge v. Skyhop Global, LLC et al, Court File No. 0:14-cv-03084-PJS-TNL.
