It was dress rehearsal day for the UND Football Team as they held their first scrimmage of the year. The Green and White creating a game like atmosphere--with officials, a chain crew and both coordinators calling plays from the top of the bleachers.
A lot of new faces hoping to make a big impression,
on head coach Bubba Schweigert and the rest of the new coaching staff.
The defense was in control early,
during the Red Zone period, Cole Reyes lights up Tyler Coyne,
that's the physical style that the new regime wants to bring.
The offense finds their rhythm, Joe Mollberg, the Detroit Lakes product,
locked in a QB battle for the 2nd straight year,
finds Kyle Ruhe (Roo) in the back of the end zone who makes a great catch for the touchdown.
New offensive coordinator Paul Rudolph has put more of an emphasis on the run game this season, so he's got to like this. On a 3rd and 18, senior running back Adam Shaugabay (shaw-guh-bee) of Warroad takes it 58 yards to the house.
The head coach says there's plenty to learn from this scrimmage.
"We needed to do it and uh, we have something to really evaluate now, and I thought uh, you know defensively, I just think we're running to the ball better than we did early in the springs, it's becoming habit now which it needs to be. And our communication was better than it was two and three days ago, so those are some improvements that we're happy about."
