Kiefer Arrested for Violating Probation in Animal Abuse Case

Posted: Updated:

A man convicted in the deaths of over 100 horses in Burleigh and Morton counties appears in court for violating terms of his probation.

William Kiefer was taken into custody last Thursday in Cass County and was held in Morton County jail over the weekend.

Kiefer is accused of buying a horse from a woman in Wyoming.

That action violated his probation.

Kiefer was not to own, possess or be in control of any livestock during a two year probation period.

Judge Bruce Romanick set Kiefer's bond at 10 percent of $7,000 this afternoon.

Kiefer pleaded guilty to four charges of mistreating animals in Burleigh County and five counts in Morton County last August. h

Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman says a Wyoming woman called him in late July.

She says she had sold Kiefer a horse and then found out about his past.

Shipman notified Kiefer's parole officer of the incident.

Kiefer's currently being held in Burleigh County jail for violating his probation.

A court appearance is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon in the case.
