Record Number of Fishing Licenses Sold

Posted: Updated:
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department sold a record number of fishing licenses, two years in a row.

The head of the fisheries department says two decades of wet conditions created more lakes.

Game and fish has stocked those lakes, and people who like to fish in North Dakota have all sorts of options....

(Greg Power/ ND Game and Fish) "We have a record number of fishing lakes, somewhere near 420 fishing lakes. Compared to 25 years ago, we were at 160 lakes, so we have a lot more water."

The Game and Fish Department reports it sold nearly 220,000 licenses for the 2013-14 fishing season.

The top places people go to catch fish include Lake Sakakawea, Devils Lake and the Missouri River.

The top fish to catch...walleye.
