It's the law -- and following it could save you big bucks...and even your life.
Before you dig, calling 8-1-1 is a must to get your site checked out for buried lines that could possibly be struck.
Today, the North Dakota Common Ground Alliance is making a big push for awareness about calling 8-1-1...and it makes sense being today is the 8-11, August 11th.
Kevin Archer is the chair of North Dakota Common Ground Alliance.
He says while there is certainly penalties if a line is struck, they are more concerned with safety and they want to make sure no matter how small or big a project is, that important call is made.
(Kevin Archer - ND Common Ground Alliance) "It is a national push for 8-1-1. When you look at the calendar it is a natural reminder that when you do any digging be it small or large, you need to call it in. Anything more than a foot deep."
Locates after calling 8-1-1 are free for residential requests...and usually are completed in just a few days after the call is made.
