New Bismarck School Gears Up for September

Posted: Updated:

A brand new Bismarck public school gets ready to open its doors this September.

Liberty Elementary school in Bismarck is getting some finishing touches before welcoming more than 500 students next month.

"We're gearing up for all those kids and families," says Liberty Elementary School Principal Terry Kuester.

Construction on the facility began last summer. Bismarck Public Schools Manager Darin Scherr calls the progress 'unbelievable.'

"It's amazing there's people that have my position that don't ever see this much work done in their career let alone a couple years," says Scherr.

Principal Terry Kuester says this summer is all about flooring, furniture and wiring for technology.

But, she says she's most excited to see the kids come together after elementary students were split up by grade level at Corpus Christi and Hughes last year.

"I think I'm most excited about bringing the whole entire team together and all the children together and and all the families together. So really schools are so much more than the building. They're about the people that are in the building," says Kuester.

"Students just like community. I think they want a place to call home," says Scherr.

And, so do the teachers.

"They want to get in. They want to get their rooms ready. So that's what you're going to really see in the next two weeks around here," says Kuester.

An open house for parents will be on August 28th.

The Rockets start school September 2nd.
