Around Town 8-15

Posted: Updated:

Bismarck is growing with businesses bringing their unique items to the area.

But one new store offers many of your everyday necessities, some even name brand, all at low prices.

K&R Surplus Center, located on N. 18th Street, sells surplus, store close-outs, excess inventory, and overstocked merchandise from big-box stores.

Owner Kathy Puklich says she's worked at thrift stores for the past 10 years and says she enjoys working with people and helping customers out.

"People want the better stuff but they can't afford to buy the name brands and this is your dollar store prices on name brand stuff," says Kathy Puklich, Owner, K&R Surplus Center.

K&R Surplus Center is open Monday through Friday 10 to 6 and Saturdays 10 to 2.

The North Dakota Information Technology Department now has its staff all under one roof.

The employees were previously spread among five different locations across town.

This 85,000 square foot, 4 story building in North Bismarck provides the space and even natural lighting that they didn't have before.

"The primary reason for wanting to all get together really is centered around efficiencies. And we believe that by being together, we're going to hopefully communicate better internally which will then provide a better service to our customers and in the end it's all about our customers," says Mike Ressler, State Chief Information Officer, ITD.

Dean's Steakhouse in Mandan is now Bar M Steakhouse.

Owners Marcia and Margaret had previously worked at Deans and when the owner put it up for sale, they decided to buy it.

"We have a blast. We've always worked well together and like I said Marcia, Marcia, Marcia I always tell her what to do so she listens and we work well together. She's my boss and I'm her boss," says Marcia Berger & Margaret Annoni, Owners, Bar M Steakhouse.

You can expect the same quality food, a few new items, and all certified angus beef.

Bar M Steakhouse opened on July 8 and Marcia and Margaret say they're hoping to have a grand opening sometime this fall.
