New Primate Center Set to Open

Posted: Updated:

In two weeks the new primate center at the Dakota Zoo will open to the public, but some furry friends are already monkeying around in their new home.

The zoo is in the process of moving the primates into the new, larger building that has outdoor play areas for the animals to swing on ropes.

The sai-mangs, lemurs and spider monkeys are all adapting to their new space.

"Saimangs, when you move them into a new area when they start hooting and hollering it's a good thing. And so my guess was it'd take a week or so for them to do that to feel comfortable. It was actually within hours," says Dakota Zoo Director Terry Lincoln.

The center will open on August 30th.
