Bismarck Man Arrested for Fleeing from Police with Kids

Posted: Updated:

A 41-year-old Bismarck man faces multiple charges after fleeing from police with his 2 kids.. ages 5 and 14.

Police say witnesses saw John Flaska driving nearly 80 miles an hour with no headlights while 2 kids were in the back.

When police located his vehicle, they tried to pull him over and he wouldn't stop.

After losing him for a short time, they found his car empty and began to search on foot.

They found Flaska and the 2 kids hiding behind a garden shed in the 1300 block of Meredith Avenue.

The 14-year-old had a scrape on his leg from climbing over a fence and the 5-year-old began vomiting when he was with the officers.

Police believe it may have been from the emotional trauma of the incident.

Flaska is charged with child neglect, a class C felony and reckless endangerment.

The kids have been turned over to social services.
