Kiefer Arrested Again for Having a Horse and Mule in Yard in Fargo

Posted: Updated:

A photo of William Kiefer riding a mule surfaces as the man convicted in the deaths of over 100 horses in Burleigh and Morton counties is arrested again.

Morton County Sheriff Dave Shipman says Kiefer was arrested in Cass County Monday by parole and probation.

He says Kiefer had a horse and a mule in the backyard of his Fargo address within city limits.

But there's more to the story.

Shipman confirms a woman from McHenry County contacted him about Kiefer taking part in a trail ride south of Towner Sunday.

Kiefer allegedly used a false name to join the riders then released the mule by Highway 14 when he was recognized.

Shipman says the mule wandered back to camp and it appears Kiefer took it back to Fargo with him where it was found in his yard.

A petition has been submitted to revoke his probation and Kiefer is being held in Cass County Jail.

Shipman says he'll likely appear in Morton County court later this week.

Kiefer was arrested earlier this month in Cass County for buying a horse from a Wyoming woman--violating terms of his probation.

He posted bond in Morton and Burleigh Counties.

Kiefer was convicted of five counts of cruelty to animals in Morton County and four counts in Burleigh county in connection to the deaths of over 100 horses in 2013.

His revocation hearing is set for September 19th.
