Bismarck Civic Center Nears Completion

Posted: Updated:

It's been more than a year since construction began on the Bismarck Civic Center expansion.

But, Senior Project Manager Brandon Moore says the construction team is making progress.

"Seeing it from the start of the project all the way through to the finish when we're turning dirt, when we're setting steel, I mean it's exciting," says Moore.

Nearly 100 workers are onsite building the 90,000 square foot addition that includes a new exhibit hall and lobby.

"It's going to be one of the larger civic centers in the region," says Moore.

And, some are hoping the 26 million dollar project will help local businesses thrive in Downtown Bismarck.

"It's just going to be kind of a hop, skip and a jump to the downtown to spend money at local businesses here and really contribute more to the economy," says Bismarck Downtowners Association Assistant Director Kate Herzog.

Herzog says the new Civic Center entrance on Fifth and Front will allow visitors to access Downtown Bismarck more easily.

"I think as soon as it's finished you're going to have a real easy access to the downtown if you're coming in to town for conferences and conventions especially," says Herzog.

Moore says the construction team is working to finish the project as soon as possible.

But that all depends on the weather-- especially after a cold winter.

"The next challenge is right now fighting the rain and it's just been relentless. We're just trying to stay ahead and keep on with the schedule," says Moore.
