Wilton Farmers Elevator Struggling with Rail Availability

Posted: Updated:

Members of a local elevator are speaking up as they struggle to ship product via rail.

The chair of the Wilton Farmers Union Elevator sent a letter to local, regional and federal officials asking for help.

The letter states CP Rail is 525 cars behind in its service. In one case they are still waiting for a train that was scheduled to for April 8th.

Board Chairman Doug Hruby says the facility is full and the late harvest is just getting started.

He says the delays are costing Wilton Farmers Union Elevator and its members millions of dollars.

The letter says no rail cars have been to the elevator in the last three weeks and the problem seems to be getting worse.

The letter asks the governor, congressional delegation and more for help addressing the challenge.
