Has Minot outgrown the three-fire station structure?
That's the question Fire Chief CJ Craven is answering with plans for a fourth fire station in southeast Minot.
The 2015 Minot City Budget proposal makes room for 14 new firefighters.
The new fire station will be located in conjunction with the 55th Crossing development where water and sewer infrastructure is going in now.
Chief Craven says he would like the team to be fully trained before opening that station.
He says an architect has been hired to work through the floor plans and the goal is to go to bid this fall and possibly break ground for a November 2015 grand opening.
(Chief CJ Craven, Minot Fire Department) "There are standards and guidelines for the number of firefighters per thousand of population, which we're well below the national average of that. But more important to the fire departments are the actual square miles of the city, the area that we have to cover."
On a related note, Minot fire stations have made adjustments to stay in contact with the scrambled scanner at the police department, but have no intention of scrambling fire calls.
