New Animal Shelter Opens in Dickinson

Posted: Updated:
As the population of people grows in Dickinson, so does the population of stray pets.

A new animal shelter in Dickinson is now open to help.

The new facility has been open for about two weeks and is run by the Dickinson police department.

It is about four times the size of the existing city pound, which is over 30 years old.

It comes equipped with a food prep area, a grooming station, and a quarantine room to help stop the spread of disease.

The new building will be able to house about 14 dogs and 30 cats.

Captain Joe Cianni with the Dickinson Police Department says the old pound has been overcrowded for many years.

"With Dickinson growing people coming from out of state to work.  They're bringing their animals here and really when they find a place to live, a lot of times they won't allow animals so we are finding strays coming in more from that as well now." says Captain Joe Cianni

You can adopt a pet from the animal shelter.

They keep pictures of all the animals on the Police Department website.
