Bobcats Battle Through Grueling Week

Posted: Updated:
What comes before the on-ice conditioning for hockey players?
Dry land-- and as you climb the ladder to the top tiers-- the more important it gets.

Sprinting out of the fog-- Bobcat players cross the line one after another-- not just once-- but close to a dozen times.

It's just one session of what is likely the toughest week of their hockey careers so far-- and also one of the most important ones.
"It's a tough week that's for sure, but I think it's a good week for us as far as team wise, team building, leadership all sorts of things you know I think we've had our captains emerge here out of hell week."
that phrase gives you a little idea of what these athletes will encounter throughout the week.
For the returners things aren't necessarily getting any easier the more they go through it.
"It's hard no matter who you are, no matter how good of shape you're in, it's always going to be a grind."
"It seems to get a little tougher and tougher every year but yea it's definitely a good challenge for the boys and kind of brings us together having to go through something so tough and we really kind of gel together as a team."
The entire goal of Junior hockey is one to win games-- but two prepare these young men for the next step hopefully to Division One hockey...
Something this Bobcat Coaching staff knows plenty about--Sedevie and his assistant Garrett Roth both played for Bemidji State.
"We want to prepare guys for division one hockey. you get to division one and it's a month straight of this. I think it's doing these guys justice obviously we want to be in the best shape that we can be. We gotta push these guys as hard as we can to make sure they are ready for that next step."
And what kind of team would it be without have some friendly competition to try and lighten things up.
They give points based on performance throughout the week.
"No matter what you do there's really not anything that makes it fun. but everyone wants to win, everyone wants to beat the guy in front of them. Everyone wants to the catch the guy so it definitely brings out the best of everybody.">>

Last year Philip Starzsynski was the winner...
This week the Bobcats will see a new face take the title.
