Free seminar aims to help local attractions learn public relations skills necessary to gain media coverage.

Shreveport-Bossier, LA (PRWEB) August 29, 2014

The Shreveport-Bossier Attractions Association will host its next quarterly seminar, entitled Public Relations Managing Your Own News, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday, September 8 at the Gardens of the American Rose Center, 8877 Jefferson Paige Road in Shreveport.

Seminar attendees will learn how to identify target audiences, write effective press releases and manage relationships with the media. The seminar is free to attend for attractions, festivals and tourism-related businesses, events or organizations.

Dr. Linda Webster, professor and chair of communications at Louisiana State University-Shreveport, Jennifer Steadman, director of external relations at the Community Foundation of North Louisiana and Kristen Powers, director of development and outreach at Robinson's Rescue will be the featured speakers.

To help put their new public relations skills to work, attendees will receive an updated media list including contact information for local outlets and journalists.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn about additional local resources such as the Public Relations Association of Louisiana (PRAL). Candace S. Collette, president for PRAL-Northwest, will be representing the organization and sharing information about networking opportunities, monthly professional development lunches and other membership benefits.

The goal of this workshop is to help attractions manage their own public relations, said Candace S. Collette, president of PRAL-Northwest. As media outlets find themselves increasingly forced to do more with less, well-executed public relations can help organizations get positive coverage and tell their story in the media.

The Shreveport-Bossier Attractions Association and the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau co-sponsor these quarterly seminars to help attractions enhance visitor experiences and better market and promote themselves.

Lunch will be provided. To register for the seminar, or for more information, call (318) 222-9391. Advance registration is required. For more information on marketing programs offered by the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau, visit http://www.shreveport-bossier.org/partners.
