Plans for a children's museum in Minot are moving ahead.
Today, a consultant who started a children's museum in LaCross, Wisconsin, visited Minot to talk about establishing a successful museum.
Anne Snow says there's no doubt that Minot has what it takes to get a kids museum off the ground.
(Anne Snow, children's Museum Consultant) "I've talked to so many startups through the years and met so many folks trying that don't have what you have going here. You have really good people, it's going to happen here, it's just that maybe we don't know where it's going to happen, it's going to happen because this is a really solid group of people."
This is where the Magic City Discovery Center will be located to begin with - in a portion of the Flying Legends Hangar at the Dakota Territory Air Museum north of the Minot Airport.
The idea of the children's museum came from the Minot Area Community Foundation's surveys of local needs.
Wendy Keller says the Discovery Center will use about 15-hundred square feet with exhibits that can make the transition to whatever permanent home is found for the museum.
(Wendy Keller, Minot Area Community Foundation) "Our hope is to open this winter because when the Minot Area Community Foundation did the listening sessions, that's what they're really hearing is that young parents want things to do in the winter, they do, and it's a quality of life thing."
Keller says she hopes there's an announcement soon about an opening date for the Magic City Discovery Center.
