In Article: Sex Offender Addresses

Has anyone stopped to consider the factual basis for these laws or their effects?

(1) According to US Department of Justice statistics, only 5% of sex offenders released in 1994 were returned to prison for a new sex crime.

(2) Additional research has indicated that most sex crimes are committed by persons known to the victim, NOT BY STRANGERS.

(3) Research also indicates that most sex offenses are committed by FIRST TIME OFFENDERS and not by repeat offenders...a fact reinforced by the 5% recidivism rate.

(4) States already have registries, and now the federal government is imposing its legislation on a state matter, threatening to remove 10% of federal funds from non-compliant states. This is more about money than public safety.

(5) Do you consider your federal government MORE efficient and responsive to the public interest than the states?

(6) Do you support a national ID card system? There are more than 650,000 people registered as sex offenders today with an annual growth rate of 7%.

(7) Most are not aware of the increasing number of persons considered to be "sex offenders" or the crimes they have committed, including persons who have simply urinated on the side of the road without knowing a minor was present.

(8) The largest group of registered sex offenders are 14-year-olds who will more than likely never commit a new crime.

These laws are a bad idea. Reply...

Hey Sarah - thanks so much for doing stories like this! What a thrill it is for these young 4Hers to see that other people are noticing all the hard work they put into their projects! Love the closups of the goats at the end. I never realized that Granny (the black goat) looked so good on camera! Keep up the great work!

I agree, Reality. This family has gotten away with a lot of stuff over the years and its about time they get called on it. Violence, threats, manipulation, etc... By the way, EMW, where did you go to school? Reply...

looks like a time out and a class in anger management is in order. don't blame law enforcement, in america, you just can't threaten to kill a judge-it's a felony any way you shake it down! Reply...

I think this is dumb, you aren't supose to talk about the case outside the court house are you? well raight there the charges should be dropped. and as if it isn't enough what Paul John III is going through raight now the f'ing news drops this on his plate to? Nobody even said anything about the school so it shouldn't have been on lock down. You know what I would tourn around and do if I were this family I would file a sivle suite on the news and the Sherrif for releasing this information. I think that it is bs how something so little is getting blown out of perportion. After the family went through something like that what do you expect them to do say thank you to everyone. I wouldnt if my brother got put in jail I would get p.o'ed. I think that they had every right to express how they feel in the court room, don't we have freedom of speach? America is called the land of the free, well this just shows how free we really AREN'T. I'm begning to think that the court system is just a crock, everything with politics is a crock of bull. I think that Ugean Mobert shouldn't have made that decision, I think it would have been just fine to leave them alone. And how can you do that two days after everything was said? I dont think that was right. I guess I better quit voiceing my opnion before I get charged with Terrising. BUH BYE (WHAT A CROCK OF BULL!) Reply...

I agree with you 100% Runtness. All this has done is torn that family apart. If you had to watch your son go to you know where and back and he's only a teen, for a year over something that shouldnt even have got him in any of this trouble the first place. They have an innocent man in jail right now. And of course the Adams County Police department has to post it all over so they look like big shots. If You were going through the things that family has been going through you would understand why words said that day were outta shock and anger. They wouldnt have hurt anybody. I think this has all been blown way out of proportion. Reply...

This is all been a complete disaster. How much more can one family take? Are you supose to be calm when your son not even in his 20's gets sent to prison? (For something that his very own friends know he was incapable of) I guess in ND you are. This is a prime example of ND Justice system at it's finist. This family is being torn apart, by the ND Justice system, because things may have been said in shock after the sentencing. It is not ok to say how you feel anymore. Lets publish a bunch of private information , so this family can never get a fair day in court, lets contaminait all potential jury memebers which is what this has done. Gives me one more reason personally, why i would never move back, small towns have nothing better to do but know every ones business, and if there is not drama they have to create some. Reply...

I have a friend that got pregnant at an early age and was thinking about having an abortion. She was visited by her uncle that had commited suicide the year ealier and he told her to have the baby. Well, she did have it, and her baby has had her own personal ghost, guardian angle, whatever you want to call it, for over 28 years. He has moved with her everytime she has. They are currently living in a house that has another ghost in it. The resident ghost is a little girl that likes to turn the lights on especially in the attic. As far as I know neither one of the spirits are malicious. Reply...

Question for we who have seen and believe, the thost that I knew existed in an old farm house where I grew up back in the late 50's. It was that of a little girl who died on the kitchen table after a vicious attack from the family dog. At any rate, the house blew down a few years back when that big wind hit just north of Lemmon SD.

Where do ghosts go when their house has gone to rubble?

Makes me sad to wonder, and I do worry about the little gal, she was not hurting anyone and did some good when we live there many years ago. Reply...

One of the homes we lived in when I was a boy was haunted by a little girl who was killed by the family dog many years ago. She appeared above our kitchen table where legend has it she died. Saddly the house is now a pile of lumber on an abandoned farm just east of the old Orange School in Adams County of ND.

The ghost never seemed to bother we children however the adults had contact with her, my mother, uncle and one aunt all saw her hovering above the kitchen table shaking her head back and forth (according to the tale she died of massive throat wounds from a large German Shepard).

So contrary to some who posted here, I too believe. Reply...

It seems like everybody thinks they have the answer. Unless Lee or Seth is God on earth, either one could be right or wrong. It isn't a question of good or evil, or right or wrong. Things happen that people can't explain. I don't believe in ghosts, but my daughter has said some pretty unsetteling things about and to "the guy" she used to see in our old apartment in Colorado Springs. Everybody wants to know the answer, and nobody will, sadly, until we die. I wish people would stop judging and acting like they know everything (Lee), and instead judge only their own experiences. God knows I wish I had all the knowledge in the world, but I don't, and neither does anybody else on this earth. Things happen, people share it, and you have the choice to believe or not. Don't tell people they're wrong when you don't, and won't, know what is right. Reply...

There is a major difference between stupidity and ignorance. Ignorance is lacking the necessary knowledge and/or experience to accurately convey, understand and discern reality from fantasy.Stupidity on the other hand is having that ability to know what is for real, when it is beyond contestation, yet still denying it's validity based on 2000 yrs of diluted and edited religous doctrine, denouncing truth for the mere sake controlling the masses. You of narrowminded faiths listen up: If the Lord doesn't want ghosts there wouldn't be ghosts. Same with demons and the like. But obviously there are both. So the conclusion is they exist by His decree and should both be acknowledged and respected for what they are.Sadly, those who claim to know the difference between the two are merely ignorant. Those that denounce or dismiss one yet profess or peaching only the other ...that's just plain stupid.
