Legalizing meth would kill meth labs, ammonia thefts, meth houses and meth oversoses overnight. Meth should be legal. Don't laugh, a group of 20,000 very serious policemen, prosecutors and attorneys have formed a group to legalize ALL drugs, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (http://leap.cc ) They see what happened when we legalized alcohol in 1932 as a good example of how drug legalization would work. We can't stop drugs. They're sick of chasing drug users and sending innocent people to prison for decades just because they like to get high. This foolish war on drugs has lasted 37 years and cost us over a TRILLION dollars and we are not an inch closer to stopping drugs. How many millions of Americans are we going to lock up in prison for decades? Legalize ALL drugs now. Mark Montgomery boboberg@nyc.rr.com Reply...

You mean the guy who was more interested in birdwatching than almost anything else in the world?  What's he got to do with anything.  I'm sure he was flattered when some town in the middle of nowhere named itself after him.  It's not even clear whether he ever visited here or not.  It's still missing the point to invoke his name, because you can't say that we shouldn't complain when the vengeful god of railroads smites us for ingratitude with a cloud of anhydrous ammonia.  What do you suggest, an offering to placate the angry diety?

As for city names, they don't actually mean as much as you might think.  We have a Palermo, nothing to do with the capital of Sicily, and we have a Bismarck, nothing but a suck-up attempt to Otto Von, and we have a Donnybrook, nothing to do with the racetrack in Ireland, aside from what might be an homage from a homesick Irish transplant.  Otto didn't visit either.  Reply...

I have a hard time leveling with the point of view that the city was built on the railroad, so we shouldn't make a fuss when they have an accident that could have killed us all.  Reply...

I wonder what the payment would have been if this had happened in some other state? It was a terrible accident. I think the settlement is paltry at best. Reply...

This may come as a surprise but some people can go to the bar without getting smashed. However if i get to drunk to drive i will make sure to have a dead body in my truck. There is no way the Minot Cops could solve that crime so i would be able to make it home safe. Reply...

Does anyone know how to get ahold of c p rail about the settlement checks? My dad and brother were the firefighters on duty with minot rural when all this happened. They drove the truck  that saved many lives that day. They put thier lives in danger driving a truck through the mess while not being able to see the road or the person sitting next to them. To them its not about the job its about the many lives they save doing something they love.  Being a firefighter, theres always a chance something could happen to you, like on the day of the accident. They did suffer on going health issues as a result of the accident along with my sister and mom who were at home at the time. I understand accidents happen but to some its life changing like with my family. We havent heard anything about the checks that were suposed to be sent out, already. The money will come in handy for all medical bills as a result of all this. Thanks Reply...

True the ones that weren't affected didn't deserve it but for the ones that were in even a small way affected what is wrong with them taking the settlement.  To many it was simply piece of mind even if it doesn't cover all medical expenses. Reply...

Im not causing an uproar, i am just saying that it makes me angry that these people who werent even effected by it are getting money.  The ones that were effected by it, what the heck is $1200 going to do for you?  It will make a small dent in a medical bill.  If thats what they use it for, but I doubt thats what anybody is going to use it for. i was awakened in the night and had to leave my house down in the valley of minot.  we drove to my grandmas on south hill.  we didnt sue for any money.. my god people, be thankful your alive.  why do you keep talking about future illnesses and stuff caused from this?  im sure everyone will have their $1200 spent by the time that happens.  I know tons of people who lived on north hill or south hill and they werent even effected by it but they are still getting money.  I guess people cant just be happy that they are live they just want the money because oh my god there was an accident and so and so could have been killed.  You could get into an accident any day of your lift driving your car, but more than likely you arent going to sue every one who gets into a fender bender with you.  There is so many things each day that could cause an accident that could kill us, it being are own faults, but we dont think about that.  we just think about how much money we can get from other people if its their faults.  i dont care that i didnt get any more and i am happy that i didnt try.  i am happy that my mom, my sister, and i are alive and ok.  thats what is more important than $1200.  Reply...

NOT DEFENDING ANYONE HERE BY ANY MEANS... but didn't some people also receive money for damage the anhydrus (sp sorry) did to their homes?  I know a few people that I know actually had the paint in their homes start disintegrating because of it and everyone was told to run water and that caused lots of people to have brown streeks running down their walls because of it!  Just wondering if anyone heard about that?? There are about 4000 people who were not affected by the derailment, If there was proof that they were injured by the derailment then the checks would have been substantial not a grand or so each. Anhydrous ammonia has been around for a long time and has been used on farms for years, they know what the potential effects of it are and they know it is absorbed by water. It does not hang around waiting to make you ill, it either kills you then or it doesn't. But enjoy those with the deep pockets because you could have been really injured and got nothing, it happens to people everyday. Like I said the next time farmers are griping about the cost of shipping wheat and such, just think of the good citizens of Minot and there hatred for one of the best paying employers in the country.
