I played in the SMCHS VS BHS state championchip game at hughes field 1985.   It was like 17 degrees - stands were packed - we lost but it just wouldn't be the same memory if we had played on turf in a dome 200 miles away. Reply...

The community bowl is turf too! But at least it is outdoors. Reply...

Yea I was discussing this last night that there won't be a Championship weekend until there is a dome in Minot, Bismarck, Dickinson, or Williston.

Besides Bismarck is about as middle ground as you can get. The Community bowl has more than enough seating, Dickinson States's new stadiums should easily be big enough as well.

Football should be played outside, besides this turf is very hard on the body. Reply...

The problem I have with it is the fact that all of the games are in GF or Fargo no matter who is in the championchip.   Indoor games are okay but this weekend would have been great weather for a game at the community bowl.

I know alot of the class B kids have to buy special shoes just for 1 game at the domes.

Why do we keep bringing up the racial issue.  This is a problem with the school and it's lack of options, not some issue over who was here first.  Stick to the topic, please!

But since you bring it up, I have often wondered how people feel about this.

Say you own a plot of land, you are down on your luck so you decide to sell the plot to Mr. John Doe.  Mr. Doe brings cash and it is considered paid in full.  - - - - - - -20 years go by - - - - - - - - Land values go up with time and you regret selling your land.  Can you go and track down Mr. Doe and try to get more money for the land you sold to him all those years ago?  No, you can't.

Even better say you were the person buying the land, how would you feel if the former owner, who you have already paid, tracked you down and demanded that you pay for the land again and again?

I know the land under the lake is getting paid for over and over, but the thing nobody talks about here, is the FACT that there was non-natives that owned land that is under the lake.  No matter if you like it or not, they paid for their land too.  It wasn't them took the Indian's land.  The government made these deals with the Indians.  A lot of times, they drew up shady deals to aquire it.  But the fact is the land was then sold to people that actually worked hard to buy it from them. These people have never had any reimbursement for their land.  Every time I hear the same old argument of how the tribes land was lost when the lake was formed, I think what about the rest of the people that had land that was flooded there.

Now I tend to avoid these arguments as I live in the heart of the reservation, but when I run into narrow minded people on either side of the argument, something needs to be said.

This post is a school issue as far as I can tell, lets keep it as that.   As long as the school is considering itself a PUBLIC school, getting tax money from the US Govt. to operate, then it would be very wrong to ask that non-natives to move away.  Are you stuck in the 50's?  Maybe you miss the days of segregation?  Until we do away with all these negative viewpoints, will we ever getting beyond the race issues.

you know this is bs....the native americans owned this land from the very beginning...THE VERY BEGINNING.....and the white people took over their land...if the native americans take the land back to have a reservation, they have all rights to that.....and if the white people are living there....they need to respect the fact that they are living on the reservation and if they dont like it then they can move off the reservation. most people dont see it but they owe native americans alot more than they think they do....by taking over their land they took over their culture and now the tribes have very little of their culture left and they want to value that. It is all about RESPECT for their culture....and if you dont want your child to learn this then move or change schools. and with the tax money bs...excuse you we owe it to them and you know they pay taxes too....so stfu travislee_johnson

Its not that simple to just go out and find a teacher that has a degree in a second language. The school doesnt GO OUT LOOKING for teachers either. You have to advertise, and when there is an interested teacher, they have to have creditials that meet the standards that meet what New Town is looking for. Then they have to have the right schooling, and degrees. Qualified teachers, have to go through background checks, and finger printing to make sure everything is what it should be. I think that it would be nice for students to learn a different culture than our own. I studied Hidatsa in college, and I feel better I did, now that I know more about my heritage and where I come from and my own beliefs. I studied spanish in high school, and now it comes in handy when I need it. Students that have the option to learn are very lucky. They're are so many kids in this world that wont get schooling. The students here are very lucky to have the school and teachers that are willing to teach them what they think is best for the students. Reply...

I can think of a whole lot of really dumb things my friends and I did years ago in St. Paul (like walking across the Mississippi river on the railroad tressle near the Franklin Ave. bridge) between St. Paul and Minneapolis.  Young folks do dumb things.  I'm sure it was an accident; and a terrible one at that for the girls and their families.  Reply...

I remember at that age doing odd things late at night, so this doesn't surprise me. I can imagine how terrified they were when it first started to play out. The poor families..... Reply...

The stock dam was 12 feet deep. All three were still in the Jeep. They were supposedly out star gazing. Spotted by a truck driver at 2 am south of Killdeer. And what the hell were they doing driving on private property in the middle of the night? Drunk? High? Murdered? Suicide? Lots of different ideas. We will see. I feel sorry for the families. Parents are not supposed to bury their children. I just about lost my only son and I was a mess. Reply...

Marilyn,

Go to Google Maps, zoom in on the Dickinson-to-Killdeer area, and you will see a lot of those dams.

I can only pray for their families.

I would suppose dams are pretty deep 20- to 30 feet but not far across unless this was a natural stock pond.  It may depend on the run off and tits been a wet year,  but I dont see three girls drowning in a stock pond, I could see without proper dry equipment freezing to death is a possibility.  Lots of bad news out of that region of the state since spring so I wouldn't rule out murder.  It is to bad for this to happen they looked like nice girls but even in north dakota things can happen.  I think they died of hypothermia and loss of knowlege where they were with cel phones that were wet.

Thanks Jose'. The only ones I  had seen were man-made in flat pastures... actually you could walk out of them. I've never seen the ones you describe. Reply...

Marilyn,

Stock ponds vary in depth, especially if they include a dam.  If they somehow became flipped over, and couldn't open their windows, a depth of 10 feet (or less) could prove fatal.
