"I believe I am a better Christian than you are"...judge not lest ye be judged. God knows our hearts...that is left for him to decide. I hope you are a more faithful follower of Christ than I am...that would be wonderful. Do you know what the Great Commission is...please read about it if you are not familiar. Reply...

NDfishfan - There are many kinds of Christianity. There have been many sins committed in the name of Christianity. I believe I am a better Christian than you are. If someone chooses to not believe or finds fault with organized religion, I am smart enough to understand that this is not a personal attack on my beliefs. Reply...

I think we'll have to agree that it's strictly a matter of opinion.  We're not going to convince one another of something we in our heart of hearts believe to be true and on which we happen to conflict.  You can't convince me there are gods, and you cannot prove it.  I cannot convince you contrary to your beliefs, and I cannot prove that the absence of evidence constitutes evidence of absence.  I can state that the burden of proof lies with the party asserting the positive.

It reminds me of the flat-earthers.  You could take them up in the shuttle and you wouldn't change their minds.  They'd claim they'd been hypnotized or that someone had spiked their juice-boxes with acid. Nobody's going to convince them otherwise, and they'd rationalize away any proof you gave them.  You'd be the same if I showed you categorical proof that there were no supernatural beings and if you could show me one, I'd probably say I'd hallucinated it.

It would appear we're at an impasse.  I'll respect your belief in supernatural beings as a matter of personal spirituality.  I won't ask you to abandon the beliefs of a lifetime.  I can't make you.  Likewise, you shouldn't ask me to believe in your supernatural beings as a gesture of respect for my personal beliefs.  You can't make me believe in it, and I'm not going to.  You're entitled to your opinions, but you are not in a position to insist that I share them. The numerous broad statements you have made concerning Christians speak volumes of how you really feel about us. I do, however, agree with you when you say that being "religious" does not make you a good person. Those of us that believe in Jesus Christ and try to live our lives as a testamony to him sin everyday...there has only been one man that ever lived a sinless life. As for your comments about neither of us being able to "prove" our stance...I disagree with that, but I won't pursue that argument. I do believe very soon you will see things happening in the world that will make you question your faith or lack thereof...just my take. Reply...

I disagree with you, ndfinfan.  That won't change on the matter of religion.  I don't believe in the existence of gods that influence our lives.  You believe differently, but that's your right.  I will continue to believe that there are no gods in spite of that.  Being that neither of us can prove ourselves right with any evidence, I guess we're going to have to settle on disagreeing.  I don't hate you for that, nor do I hate religious people.  I've known good people who were religious.  I just don't believe they're good because they're religious, any more than I believe they're bad because they're religious.  Religion or lack of one doesn't determine your character.  As long as you don't insist on me agreeing with you, we'll be fine.

I didn't say I thought the murderer was a religious nut.  Neither did Ranch.  She said people who take the words of people like Rush literally and act on it are dangerous.  She said people who do terrible things and say they had to because of their religious beliefs are wrong.  I agree with those things.  I don't see that as being personally directed at you or as an insult to your religion.  It was a criticism of people who use it as a cover for crimes. If ranch didn't mean to single out Christianity...maybe she should have said "some religions" instead. Would you take offense if I said "atheists are blind and delusional for not believing in God". Would it be better if I said "religions other than Christianity...ie, those that follow Christ, are blind and delusional for not believing in God? Actually I take offense at your statement implying that I am narrow minded for believing in Christ...I believe I am completely close minded!!! Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life...any other path leads to ultimate death. Those of you that claim no god exists, still to this day cannot explain this man from Nazareth named Jesus. Great special on the history channel Wednesday night discussing the deity of Jesus...I wish you all would have watched it.  Reply...

She said "There are plenty of nuts who take the hate literally and will act out on it...and use Christianity to justify it as blasphemy". Now I may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but how is that statement not an insult to Christians? And ranch accuses people of not being Christ-like...please find a mirror and take a look. All the personal insults about intelligence, sanity, and faith come right from your mouth and sheila's...it is what it is. Please find a post where I have accused one of you of being insane, unintelligent, or retched. Reply...

Thanks Sheila for clarifying that. I doubt if it made a difference to them as it is rationale thought. Why is it the people who shout that they are Christians are usually the ones who are the most narrow minded and mean spirited?.....They exhibit very little of Christ's teachings. Their only major concern is finding fault with anyone that is different from them. TO CLARIFY: Using Christianity as a reason to justify evil acts is blasphemy!

What are the organized doctrines of atheism?  There aren't any, except that people who adopt it as a philosophy believe that there are no gods.  If you're religious and  hearing voices, it would seem natural that the person hearing them would give them a name, like Jesus or Satan or whatever.  If you believe there are no gods or supernatural beings, then the voice talking to you must be one of those voices crazy people hear, and you check yourself into the nearest laughing academy, rather than listening to the voices telling you that so-and-so is a sinner and must die.  Or...the atheist says the voices are imaginary and goes about their business.  In other words, in order to take the voices seriously, you'd have to believe in invisible supernatural beings in the first place. Nobody took a shot at christianity.  What was actually said was that some people commit terrible crimes and claim that it was justified through their religion.  It was a criticism of people who do that rather than a criticism of the religion.  The persecution complex you display is dangerously close to the paranoia that makes such a thing possible.  Read it again and see for yourself whether it is actually a criticism of christianity or a criticism of people who use it to justify murder or other heinous crimes against others. Another  shot at Christianity...imagine that! Jesus was certainly right when he said "you will be persecuted for my name's sake". Seems like Christians get blamed for everything that goes wrong and credited for nothing that goes right...huh? Reply...

Sheila,  I agree with you there.  Like in any crime, its the one that did it (the shooter) that is guilty.     Millions listen to Rush weekly...how many run out and kill a democrat?     Can't think of any.   Crazies are just crazy.   They don't need Rush or Bush,  they have "voices" to tell them to kill..... inner voices....
