As I stated earlier regarding the supposedly "wronged" worker you highlighted on your news one evening, you are not reporting the actual story involving WSI. There is much more to that particular story that actually would have been honest and newsworthy news. In my judgement you missed the boat and tried to "make" news instead of report the news.

Although, I really didn't appreciate "dw"s sarcasm/tone felt in the comment, I too feel the same. It seems that the Natives that move to any city HAVE to PROVE that they Native, and really fight for causes such as this. I live here on the "Rez", I'm not ashamed of anything! I don't have to prove myself to anyone. Everyone says you can't change the past...you can only learn from it and move. Mr. MCNEIL/Standing Rock's CHAIRMAN, shouldn't make statements on behalf of our people as a whole, he's never even around to know what's really going on, on the Rez. If anything is going to OPPOSED OR SUPPORTED by our tribe, the tribal members should be allowed to vote or have a say in the matter.

p.s. "our" chairman will always be Mr. McNeil to me, I never did find out how he came about with "His Horse Is Thunder"??? Reply...

I would say that most of the people who are offended aren't even Sioux. And that maybe Minnesotans especially hate the name. Y'see I live over here in Minnesota, and the view towards Native Americans, is, well, very different than that one held in ND, SD, MT, and so on. Reply...

This is SO idiotic! It was an honor afforded to the Indian Nations! They were brave and fierce in battle! They ARE a part of OUR heritage too! Does Bismarck have to be renamed also because it was named after Baron Von Bismarck? Oh dear what will the German people think? How about half the cities/ towns in MN? Minnetonka for starters? Get real! Stop looking for insults and under every rock! Get over being offended where there is NO offense!!! The fighting SIOUX is an honorable name and there IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT! Reply...

Oil companies are reluctant to build new refineries because it would take 20 years for it to start making money.

20 years from now we may be a hydrogren based economy instead of oil, making that refinery obsolete.

Poolman is a turd. There should be a mandate of a ten year wait that prevents anyone who is an elected official from entering the private field directly or indirectly related to the area in which they were an elected official. Reply...

It may not have worked in the Soviet Union, but that was because government took over. If ND built a refinery it would be in competition with them not taking over like the Soviets did. There is the major difference. What is so bad about ND competing with companies that are unwilling to build refineries because it will lower their prices? The big companies won't build because their bottle necking of gas production keeps the prioces high and the profits astronomical!! Reply...

They tried state ownership like you suggest. It was called the Soviet Union. I wonder how that turned out?

Truth is North Dakota is really humming. Creighton University just ranked us tops in the Midwest for economic vitality. Forbes said we were one of the top ten states to do business in. The ND Census committe just released numbers that show we are finally starting to retain young people. We have 25,000 more jobs than in 2000. 2,000 more businesses. Almost every sector is growing. Personal income is even growing faster than the national average.

This is a great time to be living in North Dakota and the future looks even better if the Dems in Congress don't mess it up with higher taxes and radical energy policies.

When considering the increase of property taxes, look at the value of your property that has risen. If you have 300 mills assessed against a $75,000.00 property and 5 years later the same property is valued $90,000.00 and assessed the same mills, then you will pay more. A school district in my area has had an increase in taxable valuation within its district and brought in more money, so they cut the school district mill levy by one mill. In 2009, due to the further valuation increase, they estimate their property tax revenue will increase $250,000.00 and they do not even have to raise the district mill levy. Higher property valuations are the cause of most of the property tax increases.

You've got to be kidding me with this. One of the good guys? If by one of the good guys, you mean the the company with the deepest pockets.

I have researched the names of the two big contributors to Poolman's campaign. Couple of questions, why did Bachrach contribute using her maiden name and not her married name? Second, why would Brody be contributing to Poolman? What interest does he have in North Dakota? As far as I am able to obtain, he has homes in TN and NY, with not a single connection to North Dakota, excepting Poolman. Reply...

Why not have a state run grocery store while were at it, since we have the highest priced groceries in the country?

Lets have a state run everything in ND. Wow....just think how we will all benefit.

whoot- You want renters rebate? Quit renting and buy a house. If you can afford to pay someone else's mortage by renting why not spend it on your own home??

Hoeven can be beat, and he needs it severely. They need to take the tax dollars they have in surplus and spend them on something that will have a residual income for the state. Why not build a state refinery in western North Dakota? Do not allow the fuel to be sent out of state, we have such a 'shortage' of fuel that we have to go all over looking for gas and our prices are higher than all  but Hawaii. If the corporate gas companies do not want to invest in refineries then we should do it as a state and reap the rewards of lower prices and a long term source of additional income.  We will always need fuel for our vehicles and equipment, why not secure our supply? If we use North Dakota oil to produce fuel for North Dakota we are lowering the need for oil from the middle east. The profit made off the oil would boost our income without raising taxes.

duhwayne,

The state hospital called. They said you are using the computer too much. Time to get back to reality.

Before everyone BMGs about property taxes, think of what you are getting for them. Money doesn't grow on trees. How do you expect to keep your roads funded? Your bridges (especially now after the MSP collapse)? Your fire, police and everything that is needed at the bare minimum to keep life sustained? You all are not looking at the big picture.

The most property taxes have gone up in most municipalities in the last 5 years is 11%. On an average $170,000 home, that means an increase of about $250 A YEAR... or $20 a month... or $0.60 a day. Are you all really going to gripe over a $0.60 a day increase in your property taxes? Look at what you are all getting. If you throw a fit and demand lower taxes, that HOW DO YOU PAY FOR EVERYTHING? That's why Republicans, including that Chimp-in-Chief of the United States, screw the budget up. Sure, it sounds good to cut taxes, but explain your massive deficit then.

I dont plan on being a so-so Republican..I have 3 passions in life.....My family, racing and running for Governnor. I actually was going to do this at the end of Schaefers term, but thought that I needed more time to pay attention to everything that was going on in our great state.I also thought that John Hoeven would actually do a good job. Anyway I have to knock my racing passion down to 3rd right now because putting ND on the right track is my main goal. You have to be on Hoevens freinds list to think that he has actually done good for our state. I think it is the people that takes risks and succeed are the ones to be congratulated, and not let the Governor take credit. I will be someone that is for our state and each and every citizen. Like I said, when I first met John Hoeven was at my brothers funeral in Bismarck after he and Keith Smette were killed by a roadside bomb in Fallujah in 2004. He can sure put on a good act but when it is time to come thru you really find out all he was offering was lip service. One advantage I have,I have absolutly no freinds in govt, except for the great Jim Lee. I have no one there that is going to suck up to me to get there way. It will be the way of the people. I have only dealt primarily with Minot govt officials. THey are all to buddy buddy to ever accomplish something for us regualr people. THat will change. I have been very critical over Hoeven, and although it may be just a racetrack deal, but it was a 2.2 million dollar economic impact for Minot (Hoevens home town) and for ND. Next he wants a new 10 million $ grandstand at the fairgrounds. WHY? You dont support or even try to support ND citizens. That was also shown to be the same by the Minot city council. WORTHLESS people.Showed to me he was being a little prejudicial there in his decision making. ANyway like i have said this is going to be fun and a challenge. I will make sure that every govt office is accoutable for what they say or do, so they may have to start using there brain to start thinking about what is right or wrong instead of helping out there buddies. WE CAN DO BETTER...and the ones to benefit is every citizen of ND, not just Hoevens buddies. Reply...
