I am the director of RSVP Central ND (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program). I am interested in an interview on the noon show during National Volunteer Week (April 28-May 2) or any available time! I'd like to acknowledge all of the volunteering that occurs in Central ND from those 55 years old and greater. At this time, RSVP has 1,100 volunteers serving in seven counties at 200 host stations. I feel this will be great exposure to the community about how to get involved, as well as the positive health benefits volunteering has for individuals! In addition, acknowledgment during National Volunteer Week will make those volunteers feel that much more appreciated in our communities!! If needed, I could get a volunteer to come the show withme and talk about how volunteering!
Please let me know if this is possible.

Let me guess....we'd be much closer to a cure for cancer if we gave all our fundraising dollars to people like you, right? The Relay For Life (granted it is American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event) is more than raising money. It's the heart and soul of the people who commit to teams to physically & emotionally support people afflicted with cancer. Everybody who participates in the Relay For Life looks beyond the dollars and cents and looks to support those who are current cancer patients, celebrate with those who have beat the disease, and to honor those who lost their battle. And the Relay For Life is the avenue to accomplish just that. Since 2002, the Bismarck-Mandan event has over tripled the amount of funds raised through the Relay For Life - obviously & thankfully your train of thought represents only a small percentage of our community. Thank God Lance Armstrong started his own foundation...the more people uniting to find a cure for cancer, the better. There's also the Susan G. Kommen Breast Cancer Foundation. Financially, I support them all. I don't care what their CEO's make a year. Reply...

Picture this...I called 911 in Mandan, earlier this evening, to report what clearly to be a car break-in across from 509 East Prairie Lane. Eventually, an officer did show up, spent 15 seconds/left! The car in question was parked the wrong way, as did the officer "investigating." Said offer forced on-coming traffic to risk reckless action to get around his high-profile obstruction. No effort was made to identify the parties involved in trying to excess the illegally parked veichle. The officer then made an illegal u-turn, used very excessive speed, left the scene. This is Mandan's "law enforcement, in response to 911! Minor issue? Not hardly! The auto in question is still an issue, still illegally parked, and, I'm sure, the operator is still under the influence of narcotics! Meaning of 911 in Mandan...don't risk that cops might be on break! Reply...

Raising money for the American Cancer Society (who already owns over a billion dollars on assets as of 2005) who in turn supports wealthy pharmaceutical corporations, is like having a fund raiser for Bill Gates.

I know most people believe that they are doing a good thing, and their hearts are certainly in the right place.

Logically, it's difficult to trust anyone who profits from disease, such as pharmaceutical companies. It's also difficult to trust an organization (such as ACS) that has a track record of wiping out "non traditional" treatments in favor of radiation (which itself is known to cause cancer) and chemotherapy, or surgery.

They spend almost no money or awareness or education to PREVENT cancer, which is the main focus of their own mission statement. "Exercise and eat well". What does that mean? Do they pay for public service announcement to educate the public on what foods to eat which are known to combat cancer? Do they teach about the things we eat that are known to increase our risk of developing cancer?

You know, and I know, that they do not.

The American Cancer Society's CEO makes over $750,000 per year salary!!!! So I'm supposed to pay money to walk in a circle to pay for that? No thanks.

Good thing Lance Armstrong didn't listen to the traditional medicine approach, and went out on his own to learn and educate himself. For a guy with only six months to live, he is sure doing quite well, and now has formed his own cancer foundation. Reply...

In Article: "National Quilting Day"
Thanks so much for featuring National Quilting Day activities on your station. National Quiting Day became an "official" holiday for quilters in 1992 when it was established by the National Quilting Association (www.nqaquilts.org). Always the third Saturday in March, quilt enthusiasts across the country - and around the world! - make time to honor the contribution of quiltmakers, past, present, and future. This was a wonderful segment on the news and we wish all the quilters in North Dakota a very happy, and productive, National Quilting Day! I wish more stations would devote as much time to recognize quilting as you have. Thanks again for the segment. Janet White, NQA President Reply...
