I truly feel sad for smokers. They are slaves to their addiction and are slowly killing themselves. I am so grateful that I never started smoking because I know it is so hard to stop. Nicotine is proven to be more addictive than cocaine! Smokers know they smell horrible, they just can't stop. They also know they are slowly killing themselves and endangering others, yet the addiction is so strong that they defend a drug. Think about how senseless it sounds to defend a substance. Addiction is a scary thing. Good Luck to all the smokers out there that have found the desire to quit and are following through. Congrats on starting to love yourself and those around you. Reply...

Shoemart, you got me giggling. I will have to add that they should also tax cornuts, but only if they are sold in gas stations. I Love cornut breath, but it does not go over well in the car. LOL. Reply...

50% of the men in Japan smoke compared to 20% in the US. How come a Japanese man has a longer life expectancy than a US man?

I don't smoke, but I think it's all blown out of proportion to justify the high taxes. The safety Nazis in this country are out of control. Reply...

That sounds made-up.

Even though evidence weighs heavily, neither 1st- nor 2nd-hand smoke has ever been PROVEN to cause cancer. Show me the link. I'm not denying it, just show me the scientific proof (not "studies point to" or "tests show").
Of course, that is a ridiculous argument. Or is it?
I enjoy the smell of tobacco smoke; always have. I don't enjoy the scent of strong perfume. I don't enjoy B.O. I don't enjoy onion breath. All of these things make me uncomfortable, thereby raising my stress level, thereby raising my blood pressure, which has been PROVEN to cause heart disease. Is bad odor taxable?

It's pathetic that the non-smokers keep trying to drive the smokers away. True, if I choose to "kill myself", that's my choice. It's also my choice to be away from you, so get back. We've been driven outside of nearly every business in town; you'll deny us bars, too? What's the percentage of bars (including restaurant bars) that even allow smoking anymore?
There have been times when I've been smoking well outside a building's entrance, and some overzealous do-gooders have provided me with the forced sound of coughing (proving a point? I dunno.). Amazingly, when I asked them how a pen in the throat would feel, their group cough cleared up. Magic.

Tobacco taxes have been continuously raised to provide health care, including SCHIP. In the dead of winter, if smokers can find no medium to smoke, they will smoke inside the home, endangering and addicting the kids (future smokers), furthering the socialist non-smoking agenda of paying "sin taxes".
If all smokers quit, who will finance this?

Is there a salami tax for all y'all non-smokers who have the time to constantly post about us devil-children? (Mmm. . . this salted meat is GOOOOD!!!!)

Guess what! I like smoking. I don't smoke around my kids. I don't smoke in public, excepting a few bars. My cigarette taxes help pay for millions of dollars of Federal scientific grants.
You're welcome.

To you, the adamant and militant non-smoker: just remember to spit out the metal ends of your summer sausage - those can be fatal (that is proven).

I have been smoking for 30 years. I have a neat hole in my neck. I have a cool device that allows me to talk. Even though, I am barely audible. My mother and father both died of COPD complications from smoking. My brother (who never smoked) is in Rochester, MN dying of lung cancer from, guess what; second hand smoke. Continue to smoke. Just do it where no one else has to suffer. In addition, if you are a government employee that works with the public; you should smoke away in a designated area or be terminated. Reply...

fossilman - butt patrol rocks. I know a few that put their cigs out and put the butt in their pocket. Mainly because I think they can't throw them on the ground anyway because of their jobs.

Whoot - can you say 'self-control' or 'discipline'? Nobody is holding a gun to your head when you go to the gas station telling you to buy a pack or carton of smokes. It takes will-power to quit.

Your smoking kills way more people than my drinking does. When you like going to the bars and having a few, you don't get the chance to avoid the smokers. There used to be a cool non-smoking bar around here, but everyone complained, so they went smoking. There is another non-smoking bar here, but they don't have live bands. Ever. And they are always busy. The smokers go outside, even in the middle of winter at -30 degrees to smoke. I think all public places should be smoke-free. Reply...

Where in the article does it mention alcohol? Nowhere, because this has NOTHING to do with alcohol, it is about health of those of us that are smart enough to not smoke and the fact that we shouldn't be forced to because of someone else's choice. Quit crying that your 'rights' are being taken away, it is not a right it is a choice. Reply...
