pets, and you are wasting so much time worried about law abiding citizens with guns also...................how many people that you know, that you refereed to, have in fact shot other people (and animals are not people, too)? Reply...

Jack, some of the dummies I know (of) that carry guns are right here in good old North Dakota.  And no, I don't associate with them.

And I refuse to sit around and worry about mountain lions when there are so many other things out there that need to be worried about.

I would rather face a mountain lion than some dummies I know that carry guns.

Pets, you must associate with some very shady characters......maybe that is the issue.

The thing is, mountain lions are not "bad", it's that they are predators, and they will hunt humans unless they are taught to have great fear of humans.  And there is only one way to do that in order to protect human life.......

Pets, you wouldn't stand a chance against an "urbanized" mountain lion.......

Right a relocation program is expensive, this was the best and cheapest way. If we had a larger population we could justify using a relocation program. Maybe that is something we need to look into in the future...Now tho the population is too low. Reply...

People just love to have their monsters;

mountain lions, coyotes, wolves, terrorists  - - - it wouldn't be any fun without the "monster stories" and the great white hunters that go out and kill the monsters with their guns.

King, I understand that this animal could have been dangerous.  I'm not stupid.  I just don't spend a whole heck of a lot of time worrying about dangerous animals.

I think the whole scenario was sad.  A beautiful animal had to be killed because he "could have" been dangerous to people.

And Jack;   animals don't kill because they are evil.  People kill other people (and animals sometimes) because they are evil.  (In case you didn't know),  one of the most popular weapons that people use to kill other people with is a gun.  That might be the reason I don't like guns.  Am I scared of people with guns ?  You're damned right I am.  I would rather face a mountain lion than some dummies I know that carry guns.  I would sure have a better chance of surviving a mountain lion attack than a gunshot wound.

And, bottom line;  I do like animals better than I like people.  There, I said it.  No apologies.

You guys are making the big deal out of this. If this was a wild large predator hunting and living in an urban environment. Who knows if it was rabid, hunting pets, livestock, or even kids and adults.

AGAIN IF ANYONE WAS HURT OR KILLED BY THIS CAT. THERE WOULD A PUBLIC OUT CRY.

Listen guys, your missing the point here. They did what they had to do, that was the only option they had available. Mountain Lions are normally very timid to scared around humans and try to avoid them. This one has been stalking this side Bismarck for awhile.

Are idiot humans a danger to you and your kids? Hells yeah they are...

Are vicious and rabid dogs dangerous you bet they are, and are they put down? YES

2001-2009 There have 65 attacks, 1995 to 2001 and 44 attacks for a total of 109 since that article was written. 7 of which were fatal.

Furthermore that article was posted to show people on this board Mountain Lions are not cut cuddly animals.

There is a difference between respecting and fearing something. If you respect and understand the animal, you would understand why this had to be done.

You guys can wine, cry, complain all you want, but this animal posed a greater risk those in the area.

On top of all that if this cat had lived and entered a urban environment (which it obviously liked), and attacked a kid. You all would be *****ing that we didn't kill it when we had a chance.

I have been looking for statistics on drunks with guns and a steering wheel in their hands.  I agree.  More people die from many other reasons than dog bites, maulings, or mountain lions.  Put an incident in the paper and the animal rights people are all over it, looking for answers as to why the cute kitty was killed.   Put the family that died because of a drunk driver, put a story in the paper of 2 people dead over a murder suicide and people walk around and do not ask as to why.

Society is just an usafe place for you to get trampled in the histeria.

In 2007, there were 33 fatal dog maulings in the USA. (The complete list, showing names, dates and locations, is found at Canine Homicides, a section of Dangerous and Vicious Dogs, at this website.)

A survey by the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta ("CDC") concluded that dogs bite nearly 2% of the U.S. population - - more than 4.7 million people annually. (Sacks JJ, Kresnow M, Houston B. Dog bites: how big a problem? Injury Prev 1996;2:52-4.)

Almost 800,000 bites per year - - one out of every 6 - - are serious enough to require medical attention. (Weiss HB, Friedman D, Coben JH. Incidence of dog bite injuries treated in emergency departments. JAMA 1998;279:51-53.)

Dog bites send nearly 368,000 victims to hospital emergency departments per year (1,008 per day). Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Nonfatal Dog Bite–Related Injuries Treated in Hospital Emergency Departments — United States, 2001, MMWR 2003;52:605-610. Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report is published by the CDC.

16,476 dog bites to persons aged 16 years or greater were work related in 2001. (Ibid., Nonfatal Dog Bite–Related Injuries Treated in Hospital Emergency Departments — United States, 2001, MMWR 2003;52:608.

Every year 2,851 letter carriers are bitten. (US Postal Service.)

Getting bitten by a dog is the fifth most frequent cause of visits to emergency rooms caused by activities common among children. (See Weiss HB, Friedman DI, Coben JH. Incidence of dog bite injuries treated in emergency departments, JAMA 1998;279:53; also see US Consumer Product Safety Commission, Injuries associated with selected sports and recreational equipment treated in hospital emergency departments, calendar year 1994. Consumer Product Safety Review, Summer 1996;1:5.) Note that this comparison is limited to activities that children more or less voluntarily engage in, such as playing sports, playing with animals, etc. Dog bite injuries are not specifically set forth in Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics, Child Injury and Mortality, pp. 36, 37, 136 and 137, which states that the leading causes of emergency room visits overall are falls, being struck by or against an object, natural or environmental causes, poisening, being cut or pierced, and motor vehicle accident.

An American has a one in 50 chance of being bitten by a dog each year. (CDC.)

I have no problem shooting a dog that would bite me, i certainly do not have a problem shooting a lion that would do the same.  I guess that would go for anything that would want to bite or take a peice out of me.  I like dogs and animals but sometime they do not like me.

pets, you left out your so-obvious fear of humans with guns, even legal gun owners.  I fear those illegally having guns, and those feral youth that use them illegally.

joe, what's your solution about guns?  And it's not more registration and background checks, that doesn't stop the criminal and gang-banger from getting guns.............

Very interesting Sick-o.

ATTACK STATISTICS
Mountain lion attacks are rare. At the time this publication was printed in 2006, no attacks on people had ever been reported in North Dakota. In all of North America from 1890-2004, mountain lions attacked 80 people. Twenty of these attacks were fatal. Of the fatal attacks, 70 percent were children of less than 10 years old, 20 percent were adults of less than 20 years old, and the remaining 10 percent were adults of more than 20 years old. The majority of the attacks were by young lions. Mountain lion attacks on people are terrible and sad events, which are reported widely by the media because they happen so infrequently. But compared to other risks, getting attacked by a lion is extremely low. For instance, each year, about 8,000 people are injured by venomous snakes and 15 of those die. Domestic dogs, on average, injure more than 300,000 people and are responsible for the deaths of 17 people annually.

Now can you do the same for Homosapiens with guns?  What should I fear the most?

Man...hahahaha...those pictures make  me laugh.  How is everyone?  I am AWAKE....why do I wake soooo early on days off?

Shelbinator  is sleeping at her uncle's. Johnboy is at his Mom's. House was quiet last night. rol and I watched a couple of episodes of Criminal Minds...went to sleep early. Now I am up.   Oh well, coffee is good.    It is Rol's 46th Bday today. There is a nice bottle of cologne and a talking, Hoops & YoYo card.  I love Hoops & Yoyo.  I go to hallmark.com sometimes. They have ecards. Some are similar to the Marilyn posted for us.  H&Y are funny. Check 'em out if ya ever find yourself in the card section at any store.  I got Rol one once...the Whistle from The Good The Bad The Ugly...our favorite western,  played when he opened it.  His ringtone is that too.  Too funny.

Have a great day everyone.
Love,
