Bringing Gitmo detainees to the Rugby facility is exactly what our town needs.  That'll show the handful of residents who actually supported bringing a jail to our community what's what.

It was a bad idea to bring "regional correctional facility" to Rugby.  It's a bad idea to continue housing detainees from Bush's war of terror at Guantanamo Bay.  They either need to be charged and tried, or else be released.

Rugby Reader,

You are not very well informed.

Rugby jail can hardly get out of state inmates without the permission of the DOCR so how acceptable do you think inmates from another country would be to the residents of ND.

The public in Rugby would certainly not support such a move.

I don't see a fence around the Rugby jail. there is a fence around the outdoor recreation area, but no other fencing exists.

There are many federal prisons in the United States. If the government thinks the prisoners need to be moved use one of the 115 federal systems.

Overall, it is simply a bad idea to even consider moving these inmates. Hmmm.... whose idea is it to do this? Could it be our president?

Ya know..when I worked inTexas at the FBOP holding facility (like the one that Hardin wants n what Rugby has), it was during 9-11 and as far as I know it wasnt a target even though we did have a few pakistanis and iraqis. Now..if those places were to be "bombed" it totally defeats the purpose of bombing it it, for what? try get the prisoners out? they would be killed while that happened. In my eyes, 911 sure it destroyed many lives but it did make America stronger and if they did bomb again..we would only get stronger yet again. Reply...

Yep, just as stupid as Bush saying that we have to fight 'em there so we don't have to fight 'em here.  Yet people actually believed his absurd statements. Reply...

I cannot believe that you would be willing to put all of the citizens of Rugby in jeopardy without their knowledge or consent which I am certain that you would'nt even consider since you could make such a broad statement!!!  The statement  you made was not only stupid, it's crazy!!

Bring 'em on!  We can be a honeypot for the terra war!  We can house the detainees and become a target for the terra-ists to attack us.  We will attract the terra-ists so it will be easier to kill them.  It's logical!

Let's roll!

Quote"Experts have warned that any town that holds the prisoners will become a target for terrorist attacks.  "Quote

That is the truth and you can bank on that!!!! Thats why we don't need those prisoners here!!! Its called logic!! Rugby nor Hardin has a clue on what to do with terrorists as prisoners, not a clue! (No pun intended)...

Yeah, but those two don't work there anymore.  And there is now a fence around the facility.  So we are good to go now. Reply...

Would that be the same facility where in 2007, two prison guards tried to help inmates escape?

RUGBY (AP) - Two prison guards accused of smuggling in saw blades to help three federal inmates escape a regional prison are being held without bail, the county prosecutor says.

The escape attempt was foiled when a search on Wednesday turned up the blades, said Elaine Little, the administrator of the North Central Correctional and Rehabilitation Center. She said the prisoners tried to remove a window, but it was too secure for them to do more than damage some caulking.

Correctional officers Becky Willison, 29, and Keri Brandt, 20, appeared Friday before Judge John McClintock Jr., who ordered them held without bail, said Pierce County State's Attorney Galen Mack.

"We are still gathering information and reports," Mack said. The charges are still being formalized, he said, but they likely will include unlawful delivery of property into a correctional center and giving false information to law enforcement officers.

The two women were jailed in Devils Lake.

Little said she would not discuss details of how the escape attempt was uncovered, for security reasons.

"The staff did a great job in handling the situation, and we're very pleased that no one was hurt and that we were able to stop the escape," Little said. "At the same time, we're very disappointed and upset that two officers would put others in danger."

Prison officials identified the inmates who tried to escape as Gabriel Martinez, 29, his brother Ramon, 31, and Michael Wright, 21, who have been at the Rugby prison since about the first of the year.

The Martinez brothers are facing charges in Operation Speed Racer, a major eastern North Dakota drug case that federal officials say led to the killing of Lee Avila, 28, of East Grand Forks, Minn. Gabriel Martinez is facing a murder charge and his brother is charged with conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance.

Officials said Wright had reached a plea agreement on a number of charges, including possession of stolen property.

The Rugby prison and treatment center opened last September. It has room for 80 prison inmates and 40 beds for drug treatment. Its current inmate population totals about 70, Little said. It has a staff of about 35.

Willison had worked at the Rugby facility since July 2006 and Brandt since May 2007, Little said.

U.S. Attorney Drew Wrigley called the escape attempt a "matter of serious concern for public safety."

Traill County Sheriff Mike Crocker said Willison had worked at the county jail in Hillsboro as a dispatcher and jailer from 2000 to 2005, and he was shocked to hear of her arrest.

"We already do a compete background check and we do excellent training," Little said. "These were just two officers that made some very bad decisions."
