Youth Hunting is one of the best things any state or goverment agency came up with. I love it when one of my children get their first chance and I get the opportunity to teach them the proper way to hunt and not waste. Safety can never be expressed enough and if they enjoy it they pass on some of the best hunting Ethics.  Reply...

Yeah, Prairie, he is loud and screachy at times, especially in the morning.  He stays quiet until somebody gets up and goes in the kitchen, but as soon as you leave, he starts hollering and keeps it up all morning, unless you sit in the kitchen all morning with him.

I don't think that bluejays can learn to talk, because we have tried repeating words to him and he doesn't try and repeat them.  But for some strange reason he can make a sound just like a cat.  And he can also do a good imitation of the phone.  Otherwise, it's all bluejay talk and squawk.

Crows can learn to talk and so can Starlings.  I would love to have one of them too.

  Prairie;

My bluejay lives in a big cage in our kitchen right in front of the window.  He is 8 yrs old now.  Found him on the ground after a storm when he was a little baby.  Couldn't leave him there because of all the cats.  So we raised him and unfortunately couldn't turn him loose because he was too domesticated.

He's a real character.  He imitates a few things he hears alot, like the phone ringing and the cat's meowing (he can do that one really good).  My one cat who still isn't too fat to climb up the outside of his cage, goes up there and lays on top of the cage half the day.  The bluejay doesn't mind because he's used to seeing the cats and he (thinks) they are his buddies.

He's really messy, and when I sweep up seeds off the floor around his cage, he starts throwing them out as fast as he can.  It's pretty obvious he does that on purpose.

I read that they usually only live to be 7 or 8.  We will really miss him when he is gone.  We'll never have another one because it's not like you can go to the pet store and buy a bluejay.  Having him has been a really enjoyable experience.

Whatever, Jose, whatever.  I am what I am what I am what I am.  And proud of it.  At least it ain't what YOU are, whatever the heck that may be.

Oh, and BTW, this is the very first time I have EVER changed my avatar.  Right up until this very day, is the first time I have changed anything about my profile since I started posting on this forum.  How many others can claim that?  so don't go making any big deal out of that because it isn't.

Yes, Pets,

The thieving camp robber is much more appropriate for a Communist such as yourself.

Guess I have to change my avatar, and while I'm at it, my letter color in order to be a nicer person here.  Marilyn says my red letters are offensive.  So this is the new me.  Sorry Tabitha for taking the bluejay avatar,  I guess we'll have to share it.  I have a pet bluejay, anyway, so this fits me better.

OK, Jose ?  LOL

Yes, Pets, that's right,

It is a peculiar species in that they seem to originate near the Mississipi River in Ramsey County, Minnesota.  Note:  the Northern Cardinal is considered to be an "invasive species" and has been known to promote communism, especially as it migrates to the west.

Fossil;  I am one of the least selfish people I know.  Believe, me.  And I am not taking anything away from the girl who shot the deer.  She isn't going to read my post, and If I actually knew her I wouldn't say anything at all about it to her.

I come from a different place.  Where I grew up, kids didn't go hunting, and neither did a lot of the adults.  Nobody in my entire family ever hunted.  My dad grew up on a farm in South Dakota before he moved to the cities.  He loved animals even more than I do (if that's even possible) and I think he would have actually starved to death before he would have shot and killed any animal.

If my granddaughter wanted to go hunting I wouldn't try and stop her.  But I know she wouldn't.  She's another animal lover.  I can't even picture her or her brother ever shooting anything.

Whenever I happen to hit and kill an animal with my car (which I have done many times since I've moved up here), I actually cry.  One night  last month when I was coming home from work, I hit two raccoons at the same time on Hwy 46.  Now I know that raccoons are pesky critters that cause alot of trouble and a raccoon was responsible for killing some of our chickens this summer.  But I pulled over and cried.  Then to make it even worse, I had to look at them every day when I went to work for the next week or so on the highway where I ran them over.

Anyway, sorry I rained on your parade, Fossil..Next time I'll keep my mouth shut.

I can't help how I feel about killing things.  I would be better off, I know, sometimes if I didn't feel that way.  Believe me, I would love to know how to get rid of some of the 50 + barn cats we spend about $160 a month feeding.  Can't even kill any of them.  Can't even let them starve.      I'll end up starving before they do.
