My family LOVES Bessy's Best, but the Burleigh County WIC program will not 'allow' it .... according to WIC is it because it doesn't contain enough of a certain 'ingredient".... umm hello?!?!? It comes straight from the cow...what are they adding to the WIC allowable milk???

I just wish that the WIC program would allow even us who need a little bit of help to be able to support our local farms and farmers...it isn't any more expensive then any other milk in the store... Reply...

In Article: Farm bill comments
North Dakotan farmers are lucky to have a farm bill passed by congress yet the republican running for president voted against it and our state seems to lean toward republican presidents ,,,, go figure

Whats even more interesting is the federal dept. of agriculture ( republican controled ) has what appears to temporarily delete the country of origion labeling that was written in the farm bill .
And some wonder why our country is in the mess it is . Reply...

Hey Sarah - thanks so much for doing stories like this! What a thrill it is for these young 4Hers to see that other people are noticing all the hard work they put into their projects! Love the closups of the goats at the end. I never realized that Granny (the black goat) looked so good on camera! Keep up the great work!

In Article: Elk Problems in North Dakota
A few years ago I WAS in the Elk Foundation. It was explained to me that the goal was to increase the elk population in ND so we could eventually hunt them. We raised lots of money & donated land to NDG&F. When the herds finally did get bigger, ND Game & Fish decided to sell off the excess elk to Colorado and pocketed the profit. :-( Reply...

I want one. or two. I heard on the radio that they may allow hunters that are specially trained by the G&F Dept to 'sniper' hunt the elk. I did that in the military. Let me do it now. Reply...

Maybe if they would leave the mountain lions alone they could also help with this problem. We have upset this ecosystem so badly and continue to do so. Mountain lions are extremely important and it seems our game and fish will stop at nothing until they are almost gone. Reply...

In Article: Natural Beef - Part 2
Organically and naturally grown meat producers will ultimately be the beneficiaries of the meat industry. I for one, will never buy any beef, pork, lamb, turkey or chicken unless it is certified as "Organically Grown." Everyone should read "Slaughterhouse Five" to get a good perspective on how our cattle is processed and fed to the meat eating public. You will change your mind on eating meat and its products. The Meat Packing Industry is lying and deceiving the public and had been doing so for decades. Reply...

Sounds like a government program almost. It sure sounded like a great idea to start with, but I wonder if the ranchers are happy with the outcome? Now they want to double the fee? What would a good government type program be if the input costs did not go up? Reply...
